Alba Piedad Quevedo - Colombian visual artist
Alba Quevedo (Colombia) is a visual artist whose pictorial and mixed media research focuses on the processes of fragmentation and reconstruction.
Initially trained in industrial engineering, Alba Quevedo redirected her professional career towards the arts in 2005, integrating into her artistic practice a working methodology that combines technical rigor, planning, and material experimentation. Her work is characterized by the rescue and reuse of supports—fragments of canvas and compositions on paper—which are then treated with oil, acrylic, and mixed media until they are reassembled into collages that are greater than the sum of their parts and that emphasize resilience and the possibility of regeneration.
Alba has developed exhibition and educational projects aimed at the community, in which collage functions as a tool for sociocultural reflection.
The conceptual axes of her work address the symbolic ecology of habitat and the notion of care. The Earth is represented within a nest in the process of gestation or rebirth, an image that articulates themes of vulnerability and communal potential.
The hummingbird, a recurring motif in his iconography, acts as a mediating figure—messenger and guardian—symbolizing the effectiveness of micro-actions and collective responsibility in the face of the environmental crisis. In some pieces, the hummingbird appears with attributes that allude to protective intervention or guidance toward new paths. The presence of children carrying the nest suggests the assumption of reconstruction by future generations.
